The Final Delivery Ceremony of New Type Patrol Boats TCG Tuzla and TCG Karaburun Took Place

The final delivery ceremony of the Tuzla class Patrol Boats, first domestic warships TCG Tuzla (P-1200) and TCG Karaburun (P-1201) took place at the premises of the Undersecratariat for Defence Industries with the participation of the Undersecretary for Defence Industries Murad BAYAR, DEARSAN’s Chairman of the Board Baki GÖKBAYRAK, personnel of the Turkish Naval Forces, officials of the Undersecratariat for Defence Industries and the representatives of the subcontractors and supplier firms and the press. The boats will meet the need for New Type Patrol Boats of Turkish Naval Forces and the contract between DEARSAN and the Undersecratariat for Defence Indusries was signed in 2008 and the provisional delivery of the boats occurred last year.

DEARSAN’s Chairman of the Board Baki GÖKBAYRAK delivered a speech during the ceremony on behalf of his company and expressed his happiness and pride to deliver the very first battleboats built by the private sector in order to meet the requirements of the Naval Forces and carried on his words: "Building ships is a though procedure.Building warships is even harder.We witnessed and experienced the difficulties in delivering the ships to such a distinguished but tough customer as the Undersecratariat for Defence Industries. The provisional delivery of the first 5 boats was accomplished. 6 boats will be delivered in June and the construction of 16 boats will commence until the end of this year. GÖKBAYRAK claimed that a company will have to deliver the boats it built to its own Armed Forces before exporting boats to foreign companies and mentioned that his company currently has ongoing projects in three continents worth more than 500 million USD. The final delivery contract of the two boats was signed after the speeches.

Project Launched in 2005

The project for the domestic construction of a total of 16 patrol boats for surveillance, patrol control and antisubmarine warfare in the straits, bases and harbors was launched in 2005 with the call of the Undersecratariat for Defence Industries’ Executive Committee and the bidding lasted for 1,5 years. Following this procedure, DEARSAN was awarded as the main contractor and the contract was signed in 2007. Two years after the very first boat was launched and the provisional acceptance took place in the beginning of 2011 and the boats were delivered to the Naval Forces.

Operable under any circumstances

The boat is 57 meters long and 9 meters wide and 34 personnel can work on board and it has a capacity of performing and mobility at 5+ sea status with the speed that could accelerate over 27 knots in an hour. New Type Patrol Boat has 2 (2720X 2 KW) diesel main drive systems and includes OTO MELARA branded 40 mm cannonballs, DHS rockets produced by ROKETSAN and 2 12.7 mm STAMPS made by ASELSAN as weapon systems. Boats are equipped with various radar and sonar systems and also have sensors such as Gyro and Parakeet. ASELSAN is responsible in the project for the integration of the encrypted and non-encrypted communication that is capable of operating on the surface and underwater and the Combat Management System is undertaken by HAVELSAN.

250 Tests were passed

The New Type Patrol Boat project has 64000 configuration elements and each boat went under 50 factory tests, 72 harbor tests, 46 SATs, 14 OTs and 57 STWs summing up to a number of 250. 204 domestic suppliers and 6 foreign companies are participating in the project with a domestic added value over 70%.

8 Boats in Foreign Markets

Countries such as Qatar, Libya, Tunisia and Singapore are following the developments in New Type Patrol Boat and a contract for 8 boats was signed with a secret country and 3 of the boats were delivered.

Last Boat to be delivered in 2015

In addition to the final delivered 2 boats, 3 more boats were delivered provisionally and the provisional delivery of 3 more boats is planned to take place by the end of 2012. The last 2 boats will be delivered to the Naval Forces in 2015 after the provisional delivery of 6 boats in 2013 and 2014.
