Turkish Firms Attended the DSA Exhibition and Conference 2012
Headed by the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries, Turkey participated in the 13th International Defence Services Asia Exhibition and Conference (DSA 2012) that took place in Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.
A total of 26 firms, namely TAI, TEI, ROKETSAN ,HAVELSAN, MKEK, FNSS, OTOKAR, ISTANBUL SHIPYARD, DEARSAN,MILSOFT, METEKSAN SAVUNMA,GATE ELEKTRONIK,BITES,İŞBİR ELEKTRONİK,MİKES, SARSILMAZ, SIMSOFT, ÖZTİRYAKİLER,YÜKSEL SAVUNMA,SAMSUN YURT SAVUNMA, TISAŞ, GİRSAN, AYYAZILIM, REPKON, GLOBAL TEKNİK and BTT featured in the Turkish pavilion at the DSA 2012.
324 VIP delegations from 41 countries visited the Asia Pacific regions greatest defencefair DSA with participants from 850 companies from 48 countries/nations. Turkey’s attending the exhibition with 26 firms was one of the countries with the highest number of participants together with the USA and England. Various talks and meetings in governmental level and with firms as well were carried out during the exhibition where Deputy Undersecretary of the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries Mr. Sedat GÜLDOĞAN attended as a representative of SSM.
Malaysian governmental officials showed great interest in the Turkish pavilions owing to both the close cooperation built with the Malaysian government and FNSS Defense Systems’ partnership with the Malaysian DEFTECH company on 8x8 wheeled armored vehicle production.Malaysian Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, the Sultanate of Brunei and delegations from Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Italy, New Zealand and Oman visited the Turkish Pavilion and got detailed information on the products from the Turkish companies.
An MoU between Teknopark İstanbul and Malaysia Cyberjaya Technopark was signed in DSA 2012 as well. With this cooperation pact the scientists, engineers and technical personnel of both countries will make seminars and conferences and thus share their technical expertise.
Technology Transfer to Malaysia from FNSS
FNSS signed a contract with the Malaysian company DEFTECH in 2011 for delivering logistical support and for the design, product development, production of the 8x8 wheeled armored vehicle corresponding to the Malaysian Armed Forces’ needs.A model of AV8 vehicle that is to be produced within the scope of this project was demonstrated in the DEFTECH pavilion.
FNSS officials stated that the installation, production of the hull and exit ramps would be realized at the DEFTECH factories and added that technical know-how on strategic issues such as hull production and ballistic steel resources would be conveyed to the Malaysian officials during the project.
FNSS would be responsible for the development of vehicles, shared production of the platforms for vehicles, sub system integration and system performance within the framework of the project. The very first prototype, of which the hull production and installation will be accomplished, is aimed to be delivered to Malaysia in 2012. Together with this vehicle the 25 mm Sharpshooter Turret will be sent for qualification procedure. Unless a delay occurs the delivery of the second prototype is expected to take place in the first quarter of 2013. The qualification procedure will commence following the delivery of the prototypes. After the qualification is completed, the mass produced parties will be accomplished by the end of 2013. 257 8x8 wheeled armored vehicles with 12 different configurations will be built for the Malaysian Armed Forces within the scope of the project.
"ANKA" Asian Market’s Favorite
Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc. (TAI) has been participating in the DSA for many years and this time the company welcomed more than 30 delegations in its pavilion. TAI demonstrated the unmanned aerial vehicle ANKA, attack helicopter ATAK and Turkish trainer aircraft HÜRKUŞ at its stand. TAI representatives expressed that there was a strong interest in the unmanned aerial vehicle "ANKA" in addition to the attention of the delegations of Land Forces to the attack helicopter "ATAK". TAI officials mentioned that they arrived to the delivery stage of these domestic projects and emphasized that the projects will be preferred widely both regionally and internationally in the long run.
ROKETSAN was the Center of Attention at DSA
ROKETSAN, displayed 2.75" Semi-Active Laser Guided Missile "CİRİT", Long Range Anti-Tank Missile System "UMTAS" that is planned to be mass produced in 2013 after the testing procedure is over, Medium Range Anti-Tank Missile System "OMTAS", "DSH Rocket" (Anti-Submarine Warfare Rocket)recently entered the Turkish Naval Forces’ inventory, the surface to surface T-107 Rocket planned to be guided in the future, T-122 and T-300 Rockets at its stand.
ROKETSAN welcomed delegations from countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Cambodia and Vietnam during the exhibition. Meanwhile the officials of the Land, Air and Naval Forces of the region countries gathered detailed information especially on "CİRİT", "UMTAS" and surface to surface rocket systems. ROKETSAN officials mentioned that their corporation became the favorite of the Asian countries owing to the fact that the corporation designs its products by itself and offers a wide variety of flexible solutions to the customers. ROKETSAN officials made fruitful talks with various firms from different countries on the product development and modernization and shared production issues.
HAVELSAN Demonstrated the Electronic Warfare Systems
HAVELSAN demonstrated its Electronic Warfare Systems in Malaysia. While speaking about the DSA exhibition, HAVELSAN officials mentioned that they have been working in the region since 2010 and are expecting to get the very first results of the solutions they created to answer the needs of the region in 2013. HAVELSAN officials also stated that they did the launch of the Advanced Artillery Surveillance and Tracking System which was produced for the Artillery Academy of the Turkish Land Forces and was then used in Georgia, Azerbaijan and Pakistan and told that they are expecting their work to result in the first quarter of 2013. The Commander of Malaysian Air Forces paid close attention to the Electronic Warfare Simulation and Training in the exhibition. The System was used in Turkey, Pakistan and Korea. Countries of the region were also interested in one of HAVELSAN’s most prominent products "GENESIS" the Combat Management Systems integrated to the ships.
GATE ELEKTRONİK Assumed the Maintenance Services of the Electrical and Electronic Systems of the Malaysian Armed Forces
GATE ELEKTRONİK, which has been very active in the region for many years, signed a very important contract at DSA. The company was assigned by the MINDEF to deliver the maintenance services of the electrical-electronic systems and the electro-mechanical systems in the Malaysian Armed Forces’ inventory and the production, integration and software development activities as a domestic supplier. Company, firstly signed a cooperation agreement with its Malaysian partners within the scope of this project. Officials of the company said that the Ministry of Defence’s approval was of vital essence at this stage and that GATE ELEKTRONİK will have the chance to function as a domestic company in Malaysia now that it has this approval and that they are hoping to deliver the know-how they acquired to the other countries of the region in the long run.
MOSHIP Impressed Malaysia
İSTANBULSHIPYARD was one of the companies that achieved what it expected in Malaysia. The Submarine Rescue Mother Ship MOSHIP of which the construction is currently carried on, in respect with the Naval Forces needs was displayed in the stand with the Rescue and Towing Ship RATSHIP. A model of SNR 42 coast guard boat was displayed at the company’s stand as well. The products were closely examined by the senior military
NAWAS Attracted the Attention of the Regional Countries
Meteksan Defense Industries Inc. demonstrated the strategic and operative Naval War Game Simulation System NAWAS with the mobile model of the Fire and Damage Control Training Simulator. Detailed demonstrations were given to the Malaysian Joint Forces Commander Vice-Admiral Datuk SeriAhmad Kamarulzaman Bin Haji Ahmad BADARUDDIN and senior Malaysian officials and naval officers. Officials especially emphasized that they wish NAWAS takes its place in the Malaysian market. Besides Malaysia, the officials of the Sultanate of Brunei, Indonesia, Cambodia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines and Oman made meetings with the Meteksan Defense Industries Inc.
