Top 10 Turkish Universities Using National Instruments Products
Defence Turkey: Mr. Haddad, firstly thank you for the interview. National Instruments is an experienced company providing customers innovative solutions for many years. Could you please tell us more about National Instruments?
NI provides powerful, flexible technology systems that accelerate productivity and drive rapid innovation. From daily tasks to grand challenges, NI helps engineers and scientists overcome complexity to exceed even their own expectations. Customers in nearly every industry—from healthcare and automotive to consumer electronics and particle physics—use NI’s integrated hardware and software platform to improve our world.
National Instruments (NI) provides open platforms that consist of integrated modular hardware and intuitive software, that work together to locally build high added-value, custom solutions and systems serving thousands of applications. This unique platform is based on the NI Graphical System Design software: LabVIEW.
Graphical system design is a faster way for engineers to design systems that function in the real world. It allows engineers to focus on solving the applications rather than dealing with the complexity of traditional development tools. The NI platform-based approach gives design teams the confidence to build innovative embedded systems without wasting development time and cost on custom design. It allows indigenous development which results in faster time to market. Through NI open platform, we are improving local competitiveness in a country such as Turkey and allowing engineers to take the IP, develop it and make it available in the market faster, using fewer resources.
Defence Turkey: What are National Instruments’ Technologies and Products offering to Turkish market?
NI definitely helps in creating more employment opportunities in the region either directly or indirectly. Directly, by hiring locally from Turkey and building long and successful career paths for NI employees, by constantly providing them with trainings and by recognizing their achievements and hard work. And indirectly, by helping SMEs through the Planet NI program who themselves employ people to serve the local market.
Moreover, we consult with various Professors and Faculty members to guide students from an early stage in starting up their own companies in the technology field, that push the growth and development of the Turkish market. These start-ups develop to be successful businesses under the NI Alliance Partner network.
Defence Turkey: Mr. Haddad, we know that you have some cooperation’s in Turkey. Could you please inform us about your activities performed over the years in Turkey?
NI cooperates with the Turkish Aerospace and Defence industry directly or indirectly through local partners that offer products, systems, integration, consulting, and training services.
NI highly supports SMEs through the Planet NI program. The objective of this program is to empower engineers in local countries in developing their own infrastructure by providing them increased access to NI technology. The program also supports entrepreneurs and SMEs in building solutions which contribute to the development of the local economy and market.
We help our partners establish themselves and ensure their growth by jointly addressing and serving the local and global markets. One example is ENOVAS, an SME, who started as a partner through the Planet NI program and has graduated to become today an Alliance Partner and an important system provide to the Turkish market.
Defence Turkey: More recently, with a good participation, National Instruments organized 2nd Aerospace &Defence Symposium. Could you tell us more about these events National Instruments organizes?
The events that NI organizes are designed to keep customers updated on the latest technologies and trends in graphical system design. They help in attracting new customers and retain existing ones. Customers can witness how to increase their proficiency and productivity using NI software and hardware. Our biggest event is NIDaysconference, which happens once a year in Beirut, Lebanon, joining industry experts, researchers, educators and NI employees from all over the Middle East and North African regions to learn about the latest technologies and trends in design, test, and control in the Academic, Research, and Industrial sectors.
Defence Turkey: IDEF 2015 was held in Istanbul on May and National Instruments was an exhibitor in the event. Could you please evaluate the event?
IDEF’15 is a high technology defence industry fair, and it is considered as an important arena for defence industry companies worldwide. Since the defence market is constantly evolving, and with all the increased demand in the defence market for cutting edge technologies that can improve the security of the world, it was important for NI to participate in the fair to exhibit the various systems and technologies available for engineers and scientists to help them solve the engineering challenges the face with decreased product development time, cost, and risks and higher rate of successful delivery. Visitors and participants who visited the booth were inspired about the possibilities that they can achieve using our platforms.
Defence Turkey: We know that National Instruments is not only providing solutions for defence industry but also for laboratories. Could you please enlighten us about your relations with Turkish Universities and Institutes?
NI collaborates deeply with the academic sector, especially with universities under the philosophy of “inspiring and preparing tomorrow’s innovators to solve grand challenges by enabling them to do engineering throughout their education”.
Our drive is to improve the engineering and science education by preparing the students for industry challenges through experiential learning. More than 6,000 universities around the world use the NI technology to deliver industry-ready students upon graduation. Many universities in Turkey are using NI products in their teaching curriculums such as the top 10 Turkish universities.
At NI, we believe that hands-on learning is what solidifies theoretical concepts, ensures students’ understanding and mastery of the material, and prepares them for industry or advanced research. Skills learned in the classroom paired with platforms that scale to industry prepare students to solve the grand challenges of tomorrow; at NI, we put this into practice by packaging industry-standard technology into education form factors and working with partners to develop courseware. This does not only help students develop the capabilities required from the work place, but also pushes them to innovate and solve grand industrial and engineering challenges.
Our academic collaboration translates through the various seminars, hands-on sessions, and sponsorships that we hold throughout the academic year, in order to support universities and encourage engineering students to actually “do engineering” and experiment industry products at an earlier stage. We also organize a yearly student paper contest: the Graphical System Design Musabaka, which encourages students to work proficiently with NI LabVIEW software and drives innovation. We have had various submissions from Turkish universities to the GSD Musbaka 2014. Moreover, we provide universities with different software packages that allow them to install our license software on a university, campus, faculty and/or department levels, as well as technical support and training for professors and faculty members.
Defence Turkey: Would you like to add remarks for Defence Turkey readers?
One of our main differentiators is that we give crucial attention to the success of our customers. NI’s culture focuses on the success of all stakeholders: employees, partners, shareholders and customers. It is the success and satisfaction of those stakeholders that drive NI’s long-term success; and customers’ success is very important. The way we ensure to deliver on this culture value is by forming large ecosystem of technical and expert engineers that provide support, consultancy, training and assistance to our customers.
