ODTÜ Teknokent is established with the purpose of playing a role in directing technology production and experience by supporting SMEs, and encouraging innovations and be one of the important elements of regional sustainable development among mainly the European Union countries that will strengthen international collaboration and creating an environment for the transfer of technology through giving priority to those companies that are capable of competing at global scale.
ODTÜ Teknokent has been involved in a variety of EU projects including BSN Anatolia and ELEEN under the scope of CIP, together with INNOCAP a Leonardo Project, NICE, Sincere, ReSIST, Smelnnov8gate, IP4INNO, RIS-Mersin and IRC-Anatolia under the scope of 6th Framework Project. It is worth to mention that on-going BSN Anatolia Project in which ODTÜ Teknokent is a consortium member, aims to provide innovation and business services to member companies to increase the competitiveness and innovative capacities of the SMEs in the Central Anatolia Region, thus contributing to diminish the ‘innovation gap’ between Europe and its main competitors.
ODTÜ Teknokent has a growing and innovative ICT-Telecommunications, Aerospace, Homeland Security and Electronics ecosystem. ODTÜ Teknokent has reached to a scale of 300 R&D companies, %89 of which are SMEs serving primarily in the above-mentioned sectors. In accord with the prioritized areas of ODTÜ and ODTÜ Teknokent these are the strategic areas of concentration. ODTÜ Teknokent is constantly developing new policies and supporting programs in this area by hosting the largest companies of Turkey to share their know-how and projects with the smaller companies. This model provides the smaller ones the chance to develop deeper know-how in very specific areas and the larger companies to become more innovative and to be more flexible and avoid being oversized.
ODTÜ Teknokent Defence Industry Cluster – TSSK embodies not only more than 92 companies dealing with R&D in the defence, aerospace and security sector, but also several research centers and laboratories. ODTÜ Teknokent Defence Industry Cluster - TSSKis promoting the internationalization activities of its companies through joint R&D programs, co-develop and co-export opportunities with international companies. The cluster’s priority isdeveloping indigenous technologies for the vital and critical needs of Turkish Armed Forces, within the framework of research and development oriented cooperation with national and international universities and through mutual technology transfer between national and international firms.
TSSK is made up of prime contractors and SMEs creating high technology, value-added solutions in the fields of manned and unmanned vehicles; advanced materials, CBRN technologies, protective vehicles and material technologies; human-machine interface; cyber and homeland security; cryptography, coding and encryption, electronic intelligence systems; criminology; modeling and simulation, simulation systems; communication, electronic and information systems; sensors and electronic systems, dataLink technologies as well as the various related engineering services such as testing, calibration, modeling and maintenance of these systems. The driving force of the cluster is intensive Research & Development stimulated by the synergy between university, industry and research institutions. The cluster members currently employ around 2200 R&D and 400 administrative personnel and at any snapshot in time, around 150 active R&D projects are conducted by the members of TSSK.  As of the end of 2014, the export rate of TSSK is approximately 50 million USD.
The affiliates of Teknokent Defence Industry Cluster contribute to many projects that have been realizedforTurkish Defence Industry. Turkey’s first medium altitude unmanned air vehicle – ANKA, first advanced attack and tactical reconnaissance helicopter – ATAK, first modern tank –ALTAY, first national ship – MİLGEM and for first high resolution remote sensing satellite – GÖKTÜRK 2, the software, hardware and other sub-systems thatare used are all designed by the member companies of TSSK.
Teknokent Defence Industry Cluster – TSSK, established in May, 2010, provides its memberswith diverse range of training and consultancy services, with possibilities to make use of public and private funds,collaboration opportunities through organization of cooperation days and participation to industry-specific international exhibitions.
Within the context of the fund received from the Turkish Ministry of Economy, in accord with the “Development of International Competitiveness” project grants of the ministry. The goal of the fund is to improve technical and business know-how accumulated in the participating companies in order to increase the competitiveness of Turkish companies in the global market and finally to improve exports. In accord with the strategic leadership ofthe Undersecretariat for Defence Industries – SSM,as one of the most important technology castles of the Turkish defence sector,TSSK will promote 50 of its member companies with the support granted by the Turkish Ministry of Economy, and facilitate their recognition and export potential in the global market through many international roadshows and exhibitions.
ODTÜ Teknokent and TSSK in IDEF 2015
In IDEF 2015, TSSK is going to participate with 23 affiliates, 13 of which will attend the show at the cluster’s exhibit area in hall 12 at stand 1215 and others will have separate exhibit areas during the show.  During the show, ODTÜ Teknokent will be organizing a matchmaking event at the affiliates’ booths between member companies and other companies exhibiting at or visiting the show. 
Being one of the most prestigious events for Turkish Defence Industry, TSSK perceivesIDEF 2015 as a valuable opportunity to introduce its members’ capabilities and welcomes all show participantsand even delegations to its members’ booths to discuss collaboration possibilities for today and tomorrow.
