Turkish National Police Expands its Product Range
Regarding the two Tactical UAV systems that the Turkish National Police plans to purchase within the scope of its reconnaissance and surveillance requirements, the proposal evaluation and contract negotiations that have been going on for a while between Turkish National Police and Baykar Makine finalized on October 15th and Tactical UAV procurement contract officially came into force.
With the contract signed, immediate procurement of two “Bayraktar Tactical” UAV systems that are composed of a total of 6 Aircrafts and 4 Ground Control Stations is intended. Following the 2 aforementioned sets entry into the inventory of the Turkish National Police, the remaining three systems that are planned to be purchased optionally are projected to be procured extending to years in accordance with the user criteria.
The efforts for the procurement of the two integrated Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Systems that are capable of conducting reconnaissance and surveillance, that feature EO/IR camera disposable load that is able to make imagery intelligence in order to detect and track the fixed/moving targets, that could endurance at least 20 hours, and that are able to transmit the data collected through the disposable loads to the Ground Systems and conduct the analysis of the disposable load data within the scope of the security policies of the Turkish National Police were launched on 31 August 2015 by the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries.
Turkish National Police Ordered Bomb Disposal Robots
Simultaneously with the aforementioned contract, with a written statement made by the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries it has been announced that the procurement activities for the 16 armored vehicles in order to be used by the bomb disposal squads functioning throughout Turkey and that are suitable for usage in both night and day, under all weather and land conditions, that feature tracked mobilization system, electrically driven, that are compatible with the maneuver capability of the squads and for their transportation and deployment and 100 Bomb Disposal Robots, that are of medium size and portable by two persons, have been launched.
According to the Contract on the Bomb Disposal Robot Project signed on October 19th by the Turkish National Police and Aselsan, the Bomb Disposal Robots will be manufactured by Aselsan for the Turkish National Police. The systems to be procured as part of the contract at an amount of $20 million are aimed to be delivered to the procurement authority in 2017-2018.
The “Kaplan” Bomb Disposal Robots that will be manufactured by Aselsan, feature a durable vehicle platform that has high mobilization capability and various useful loads could be easily integrated on this platform according to the task to be performed. “Kaplan” Bomb Disposal Robot, enables the bomb disposal personnel to examine a suspicious object at a distance of 500 meters and it is equipped with a 7 degree-of-freedom robot arm that helps examine the IEDs in detail and deactivate them with its disrupter. The tracked vehicle equipped with a suspension system can move up and down stairs to reach suspicious objects and can traverse on snow, mud and water. The system, operating under adverse weather conditions,between - 30º C and + 69º C, can travel 15 km without changing batteries and can fulfil the bomb disposal tasks for over 4 hours.
The Robot user is able to examine the live images of objects placed under a vehicle or inside a car from the Operator Control Unit (OCU) and even can record them for future examination. The Robot can listen to the surroundings where an examination is taking place with the microphone on the Robot and where necessary, can announce the user’s audible warning to its surroundings.
