Helicopter Platform Camera System was firstly designed and developed to be used on the Cost Guard Search and Rescue Ships. The camera system was installed by Aselsan on 4 ships (TCSG Dost, TCSG Güven, TCSG Umut and TCSG Yaşam) produced by RMK Marine. These systems are being used successfully, so helicopter operations can be comfortably performed.

The system is used for directing the crew and coordinating the operations during the approach and land of helicopter on the dedicated platform. Supervising the helicopter and the activities on the helicopter deck are managed by using the camera system.

This camera system comprises of the rotating platform (pan & tilt mechanism) and the LLTV (Low Light TV) camera on it. The rotating platform is well sighted over the helicopter deck.

Video images are transferred to the operators’ desk by a video cable from the rotating platform. Vice versa, pan & tilt mechanism is driven by the commands sent from the operator. The operator uses a control unit with joystick and keypad and remotely controls the rotating platform while observing the video monitor in front of him. By using a video distribution amplifier, video images may also be conducted to monitors on other departments on the ship.

The system is designed and installed by Aselsan. At the center of this system there exists the Interface Unit designed and developed by Yenel. The Interface Unit captures and resolves the command codes from the control unit operated by the user. Then required command codes are generated and sent to the rotating platform and to the LLTV camera.

Power and video lines are also distributed via the interface unit. The Interface Unit protects itself and the rotating platform against electrical hazards such as short circuit or overloads that may appear.

A similar Helicopter Platform Camera System will be installed onto the MOSHIP shown on the photograph. SNR-MOSHIP is a dedicated submarine rescue mother ship designed to perform subsea and surface search and rescue missions in various sea conditions. It is produced by Istanbul Shipyard of SNR Holding.

A novel feature is the night vision camera added. The system will be installed by Aselsan and it will operate by using the Interface Unit that Yenel will design and develop.

Another contribution of Yenel to these camera systems is the electronic board inside the LLTV cameras. LLTV cameras produced by Aselsan are controlled by the electronics designed and developed by Yenel. These camera control boards receive and acknowledge the remotely sent commands and perform the required operations. These operations relate to the basic functions of the camera such as zooming, focusing, iris adjustment, wiper control, screen wash and heater control. Besides, status information may be sent periodically and BIT (Built in Test) requests are met.

Yenel is an R&D company that resides at METU Teknokent. Yenel aims to grow by developing and spreading its own design products.
