Luke Pollard, UK Minister for Defence Readiness and Industry, announced the sales and modernisation figures related to the transfer of 12 second-hand C-130J Super Hercules aircraft to Türkiye. According to the official statement, the agreement safeguards around 1,400 skilled jobs in Cambridge and forms part of the UK’s record-breaking defence exports in 2025.
Pollard said, "20,000 jobs across the UK were secured through the largest fighter jet deal in a generation, selling 20 world-leading Typhoons to Türkiye in an £8 billion boost to the economy and strengthening NATO’s collective security. These deals are also complemented by the export and sale of 12 C-130 aircraft to Türkiye at a combined value to UK defence and Marshall Aerospace Group of over £550M – safeguarding 1,400 skilled jobs in Cambridge – as well as the sale by Devon-based company Supacat of 18 transporter vehicles for Czechia’s armed forces."
In parallel, Marshall Aerospace has secured a multi-year support and sustainment contract with the Turkish Ministry of National Defence. The contract covers entry-into-service support, scheduled maintenance, spares, tooling, and training, enabling Türkiye to build an indigenous C-130J sustainment capability.
As part of the modernisation scope, centre wing box replacements will be completed on all 12 aircraft prior to their induction into service. The resale and preparation process was conducted in cooperation with the UK’s Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) organisation.
