Aselsan Mod 5/S IFF (Identification Friend Or Foe) System
Recognition and Identification Systems are the systems of vital importance in respect of the military operations as they enable the rapid and correct identification of the friendly platforms in battlefields through the interrogation and transponder method.
In order to improve the weaknesses of the IFF Mode 4 utilized in the military area, a schedule envisaging the transfer to IFF Mode 5 was made by the NATO and utilization of Mode 5 was made obligatory in such platforms by the year 2020.
In line with the developments in NATO, Aselsan signed a contract with the Ministry of National Defence on the development of National Mode 5/S IFF Interrogator and Transponder devices through national resources.
Within the scope of the Project conducted by the Ministry of National Defence’s R&D and Technology Department, Aselsan successfully accomplished the Factory Acceptance Tests of the Interrogator and Transponder Prototypes in March 2011.
With Air Forces Command’s 1st Air Supply Maintenance Center Command, the Transponder and Remote Command Units’ integration to F-4E/2020 was completed, and afterwards in January 2012, the approval for flight was granted by the Aviation Safety Board and Air Forces Command.
In November 2012, during operational flight tests, National and NATO Mode 4 and Mode 5 were mutually tested with success in F-4E/2020 aircraft with Aselsan’s National IFF Interrogator integrated Air Defence Radar.
In Aselsan’s National IFF Interrogator and Transponder, National and NATO capable Mode 4 and Mode 5 Crypto Units that were developed by TÜBİTAK are being used.
Aselsan National Mode 5/S IFF System features all the following characteristics enabled by Mode 5;
high reliability,
increased resistance against deception,
high identification probability,
encryption of all interrogation and transponder data.
By introducing the STANAG 4193 compatible Mod 5/S IFF System to its product family, Aselsan took its place amongst limited number of companies developing their indigenous systems in this area in the world.
In addition to being the solution partner of the Turkish Armed Forces in Identification and Recognition Systems, Aselsan aims to become one of the most prominent suppliers in the world in this area.
