Assoc. Prof. Temel Kotil has been Appointed as the new CEO of Turkish Aerospace Industry

Upon the resolution of the TAI Board of Executives on 21 October 2016, Assoc. Prof. Temel Kotil has been appointed as the President and CEO of TAI. TAI’s former President and CEO Mr. Muharrem Dörtkaşlı has been appointed as the Consultant to the Chairman of the Board of Executives of TAI.

The Biography of Assoc. Prof. Temel Kotil

Born in 1959, Kotil graduated from the Aircraft Engineering Faculty of the Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) in 1983. In 1986, Kotil completed the master’s degree program in the Aircraft Engineering at Michigan University in Ann Arbor, USA and he finished his second master’s degree program in the faculty of Machine Engineering at the same university in 1987. Temel Kotil accomplished his PhD again in Machine Engineering at the Michigan University in 1991.

Between 1991 and 1993, Kotil conducted the foundation and management of the Aerospace and Advanced Composite Laboratories at İTÜ Aircraft and Space Sciences Faculty. Serving as a Vice Associate Professor and Associate Professor at the İTÜ Aircraft and Space Sciences Faculty, Kotil executed the Vice Presidency of the Department at the same faculty and he acted as the Vice Faculty President in 1993-1994.

Following his assignment at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Research, Planning and Coordination Department as the Department Head, Kotil served as the guest professor at the Illinois University, USA in 2001 and he acted as the Department Head at the Research and Engineering Department at AIT Inc. in New York. 

Starting his career at Turkish Airlines (THY) as the Vice Technical General Manager in 2003, Kotil was assigned as the THY General Manager and Board Member in 2005 and he was promoted to the task of THY’s President and Vice Chairman of the Board in 2015.  In 2006 Kotil was selected as the IATA Executive Board Member and in 2010 he was chosen as a Board Member of the Association of European Airlines - AEA. In 2012, he became the Vice President and in 2013 was selected as the President of AEA. In 2014, Temel Kotil became a member of the DEIK Turkey - USA Business Executive Committee.

He is married and a father of four children, Temel Kotil has produced numerous research and scientific publications.
