Effective Solutions to Communication Needs from KAREL

Karel, as being Turkey's proud technology company, which has all processes from design to production in R&D, operates in the fields of Telecom, Corporate Projects, Automotive Projects, Electronic Production and New Technologies in addition to Defense Industry Solutions and Karel stands out with its innovative solutions with its own patent, is the biggest company in Turkey's communication technologies sector without having foreign partners with its nearly 5 thousand employees. 

Senih BAŞOL, being Head of KAREL Defense Industry Solutions Group, defines firm’s competence and capability in military systems, with the phrase "To be able to offer cost-effective solutions while designing..." as a result of his experience in the civilian sector. 

He defines Karel's product profile in the field of defense with these words: “We see that Karel maintains its focus on information and communication technologies and meets user needs with a wide range of products.”

Exporting products and technology to allied armies as well as the Turkish army, Karel's solutions for land applications include Switching Systems, which are an important element of military communication networks, and Intercom/Radio Communication Systems used in land vehicles.

Switching Systems 

Başol says the following regarding KAREL's Switching Systems solutions: “We have a wide product range for networking in the military field, including IP-based switchboards, IP/radio gateways and routers as intermediate products. Thanks to this diversity, we are able to offer wide-range turnkey solutions that meet all the requirements of contemporary communications environment for wired/non-wired long-range voice, video and data transmission.”

DS200T IP Based Tactical Field Switch

DS200T, KAREL's portable military field exchange, is a product designed to include today's IP technology and achieved its first commercial success with exports.

Developed to establish a network for wired/wireless communication, the product is a switching system that has interfaces compatible with all stationary devices in the hands of the armies and that switches everything into anything. 

The DS200T can also create a wireless network with radio links produced by different companies. Field phones and high-tech IP phones can be connected to the DS200T. The connection of IP phones does not require any extra hardware and is made through the existing IP switch on  the exchange.

Başol shares the following information about on the progress for DS200T: “We delivered the order we received from our Presidency of Defense Industries in 2021 to meet the needs of our Land Forces Command. For this delivery, the DS200T, which was reconfigured in accordance with the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces, was produced as integrated into the switch or can be used on its own in the field. With this delivery, KAREL's largest domestic delivery in a single batch in the field of defense activity was completed. In 2022, we received another order for Turkish Land Forces to a greater extent. We aim to complete the delivery of this order by the end of this year. 

The second batch orders we received from Bangladesh for DS200T Exchange once again demonstrated the success of our product in the competitive arena. We are hopeful that this product will receive additional orders both at home and abroad.”

AG102 Military Gateway

AG102 Military Gateway (Voice over IP) is a sealed and durable product developed for use in the military tactical field.

The AG102 Military Gateway is used in user terminals to transform the data received from analog, CO and ISDN PRI interfaces into ethernet/IP data and transmit it through the IP port, and similarly, to distribute the data coming from a single port in the opposite direction to other interfaces (analog, CO and ISDN PRI). The device establishes a SIP Trunk connection with the central sound server and can be registered to the sound server.

TAG102 Military Radio IP Gateway

TAG102 Military Radio IP Gateway (Radio over IP) device converts the radios connected to it into Ethernet/IP data and transmits them to ethernet networks over IP ports. In this way, it provides the connection of analog radios to satellite or ethernet networks, creating a complementary element for IP communications in the tactical field. In addition to its radio connection, the product has Analog/IP conversion capacity for 14 FXS subscribers.

Regarding Gateway products, Başol stated as follows: “We are proud to have developed our country's first national Gateway product family with our unique technology. With these products, we can also offer tailor-made, cost-efficient  solutions.”

Intercom/Radio Communication Systems

IKT102 Intercommuni-cation System

IKT102 is a device designed to be used in military land vehicles, providing in-vehicle communication for up to 9 users as needed, and capable of connecting with the outside world via its radio interface. As the base model, the product consists of a center unit, military helmets and an external speaker unit. With this model, we exported to a wide range of countries in 2022 with our world-class successful armored vehicle manufacturers such as Otokar, BMC and Nurol Makina. Our cooperation continues this year as well.

IKT110 Intercommu-nication System 

IKT110 is another product that provides internal and external (wireless) voice communication with modular, easy-to-use, expandable user units specially designed for land platforms.

IKT110 stands out as a device that provides digital voice communication, full duplex intercommunication capability, digital switching infrastructure, expansion infrastructure for up to 9 users, 2 radio connections (HF/VHF/UHF), and radio communication control over user stations stands out.

In recent years, we have added the ability to connect 3 separate radios to our IKT110 intercom system. We have added the Headset suitable for helmet, the bone conduction headset and the headset that offers wireless communication to our product range, to the head set we provide with the systems.    

Başol explains the characteristics of the Intercom/Radio Communication Systems product family and the latest status of their work on this product family as follows: “Our internal speech/radio external communication devices that we have developed for land platforms are fully qualified to meet the needs in markets where simple and effective solutions are prominent. This product family has been developed to meet all military environmental and electromagnetic compatibility standards while meeting the internal and radio communication needs of the vehicle crew.

In the last period, our land platform manufacturer companies' domestic sales and superior success in export have pleased us as the solution partners of these companies. In this context, I can say that we have the opportunity to work with all of our companies that produce land platforms.” 

Headsets

Başol says the following about the Headset product, which has an important place in the field of communication: “The critical competence in the Headset field of activity is to filter out the unwanted noise in the environment and highlight the desired sounds, known as Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). In this context, we produce different solutions in our acoustic laboratory that we have established. We can offer different solutions to users, including bone conduction headsets.”

KBRNUB Unit

In 2022, first shipment of Karel's new product Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Warning Unit (KBRNUB) was realised. System, which works with new sensors, has entered the service of Turkish Army as a unique part of air defense systems. With this unit a visual and audible warning system has emerged that can meet all regarding demands of army.
