Modernisation of the AY Class Submarines

The modernisation of the TCG “Doğanay” and TCG “Dolunay” submarines of the Naval Forces Command was accomplished following the modernisation activities carried out by the Savunma Teknolojileri ve Muhendislik A.S. (STM) over the last 4.5 years.

 With this project conducted by STM, the most vital battle and navigation systems of the submarines were modernised and delivered to the Naval Forces Command.

With the completion of the modernisation activities conducted for the “AY Class” submarines namely the TCG “Doğanay” (S-351) and TCG “Dolunay” (S-352), a significant contribution to the potential and capabilities of the Naval Forces Command has been made. Within the scope of the Project, modernisation of the electronic support, attack and navigation periscopes as well as inertial systems of the submarines have been achieved. The success of this Project also bears importance considering the increase of the responsibilities of the domestic industry within the scope of the submarine projects. This project has been realised through the support, labour force and experience of Turkish Naval Command’s Gölcük Naval Shipyard that has been building submarines for over 35 years and thus has extensive knowledge in this field.

Naval Forces Command Shapes the Operational Requirements of the Future

 Through the completion of the modernisation of the submarines as part of its inventory, the Naval Forces Command aims to fulfil the current and future operational requirements of Turkey. Within the scope of the “AY Class Submarine Device/ System Renewal Project”, STM also assumed the System - Platform installation and integration activities, Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) and technical aid/support services. Simultaneously, STM takes on essential tasks in order to provide the maximum domestic participation in the on-going “New Type Submarine” project.
