Muratreis Begins Launched Sea Trials

As part of the New-Type Submarine Project, the Muratreis submarine—one of the six submarines to be procured—has begun sea trials. It was disclosed by MoD on 22nd April. In the written statement: "Following the completion of port outfitting activities for our Muratreis submarine, the third submarine of the New-Type Submarine Project—the Muratreis, which had the Turkish flag raised to the masthead in a ceremony on April 17—began its first sailing on April 20."

A total of six Reis-class submarines are scheduled to be constructed under the program. The first submarine of the New-Type Submarine Project, TCG Pirireis, was laid down in 2015, launched in 2019, and delivered to the Naval Forces Command during a ceremony held on August 24, 2024, following harbour & sea acceptance tests.

The second submarine of the class, TCG Hızırreis, was laid down in 2016 and launched in 2023. TCG Hızırreis was commissioned during a ceremony held at the Gölcük Naval Shipyard Command on November 29, 2025.
