Paris Air Show’s Market Size Reaches to $130 Billion
Paris Air Show, recognized as one of the greatest aerospace events, opened its doors for the 51st time on 15-21 June 2015. This year’s 2303 exhibitors helped break the previous record set in 2013 while both trade and general public visitors came in their droves, with more than 350,000 visitors and 4300 journalists passing through the Gates,an 11% increase on the attendance in 2013. There were also many new aircraft showcased such as the Dassault Falcon 8X, Airbus A350 XWB, Boeing 787, A400M, Pakistan’ JF17 Fighter Plane and the Bombardier CS300. Almost 130 aircrafts,helicopters and drones were on display, both in the air and on the ground.
296 official delegations from 91 countries participated in the event in which the order size was recessed to €130 billion, €20 billion behind the size reached in 2013. The event witnessed the competition between the leading aerospace companies; Airbus and Boeing. The total amount of orders received by the aforementioned two companies is recorded as €100 billion. Boeing received an order of 145 aircrafts where Airbus received 124. The amount of orders received by Airbus Company together with the pre-contracts reached up to 421 while Boeing’s quantity of received orders remained at 331. Thus, the total amount of orders placed to the European aerospace company reached to €50 billion where American Boeing company received an order of $50,2 billion.
Roketsan and OSSA’s Debuts at the Paris Air Show
100 countries, including Turkey, participated in the event. Increase in the participation of Turkish companies was observed compared to the previous years. For the first time, Roketsan attended the Paris Air Show this year. Roketsan displays innovative missile and rocket technologies such as UMTAS Long Range Anti-tank Missile, Cirit 2.75” Laser Guided Missile, Stand-Off Missile “SOM”, SOM-J, A new generation Stand-Off Cruise Missile for the F-35 aircraft, TEBER,The New Generation Laser Guided Kit and Firing Range Modernization Capabilities. On the other hand, the OSTIM Defence and Aviation Cluster (OSSA) companies realized their first participation to the event with their stands as well. At the OSSA stand, Emge, Hexagon Studio, Apeks Havacılık, Küçükpazarlı Havacılık, Alkan Makina, Icterra, Odak Kompozit, 2G Havacılık, ME-GE Teknik, MFK Makina, Uygur Savunma, Mekasan, İmsan Makina, Gora Makina, Hazerfen Havacılık, Sadtek Elektronik, Digitest Dijital, Doğanlar Çelik Dövme, Gökser Makina, Ünimetal and Gürmetal displayed their products. In addition to the aforementioned companies, TEI that represented Turkey in the previous years attended the event and TAI participated in this year’s event in Chalet level and demonstrated T129 “Atak” and “Anka” platforms at the static area. On the first day of the event, Undersecretary for Defence Industries Prof. İsmail Demir and his accompanying Turkish delegation paid a visit to the TAI’s static area that drew the close attention of many official delegations from various countries. Prof. İsmail Demir obtained information from TAI’s General Manager Muharrem Dörtkaşlı particularly on the Anka Block-B platform with SAR configuration that was manufactured especially for the event. Air Forces Command’s Head of Plans and Principles Major General Idris Aksoy and Turkish Ambassador to France HakkiAkil visited TAI’s chalet and static area as well.
The Turkish Regional Passenger Aircraft Project that was launched by the Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu in the past few months was introduced to aviation/aerospace authorities worldwide at Paris Air Show as well. At the press meeting organized by Dornier’s CEO Dave Jackson and Esensi’s (SNC’s association at Turkey) General Manager Cem Uğur; it was announced that the German Dornier 328 model aircraft, the intellectual and industrial property rights of which were procured by the space and aviation company Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) owned by Eren-FatihOzmen couple would be conducting its activities as a Turkish brand under the title of TRJetHavacılıkTeknolojileri Corporation based in Ankara.
