As the UK’s trade association for aerospace, defence, security, and space organisations, ADS is committed to strengthening our collaboration with international partners. We are proud to host the United Kingdom Pavilion at IDEF 2023. The Pavilion is home to outstanding examples of British innovation and engineering, and, if you stop by, you will see why the defence sector is such as source of pride in the United Kingdom.
The UK is the second largest defence exporter in the world, with export orders worth £7.4 billion to the UK on a three-year average. In 2022, ADS estimates that the defence sector generated £22.8 billion in turnover, and directly employ 147,500 people. Our highly skilled and innovative workforce includes 6,900 apprentices who deliver dynamic and technologically advanced services and capabilities as global threats and volatility increase.
Turkey is a large and potentially prosperous market with considerable scope for collaborative business opportunities for UK defence and security companies to meet its national security current and future needs. In the UK, we understand that, following many decades of investment in the development of Turkey’s own defence and industrial capabilities, the strong and proud Turkish Defence industry is highly capable and effective, with shared international export and partnership opportunities for its products and services.
Against an evolving and challenging threat landscape, continued partnership and investment in defence and security will help our respective industries to strengthen and grow for years to come. ADS advocates for defence and security organisations to work collaboratively on identifying effective, efficient, and reliable local partners. Through partnership, organisations can jointly develop and manufacture material and services that meet both Turkey’s own defence requirements as well as those of international partners.
The UK has a proven track record globally as being a keen and enthusiastic partner for commercial and joint venture activities that are aimed at supporting mutual benefit for both partners. ADS Group serves as a convening partner through which such partnerships can be facilitated, and during IDEF we look forward to exploring potential partnership opportunities with and on behalf of our members with defence and security organisations.
We wish you a successful IDEF 2023, and hope that UK industry will remain your long-term partner as we explore and strengthen relationships with international partners, such as Turkey.
