STM signs a contract on second and third packages of MILGEM Project
Contract for Acquisition of MILGEM Project Prototype Ship Design Services and Platform Construction and Outfitting Equipment and Services for all packages has been signed between Undersecretariat for Defence Industries and STM on April 9, 2007. This contract is covering second and third packages of material and service procurements of MILGEM Project.
Turkish Naval Forces Commander Admiral Yener Karahanoglu, the Under Secretary of Defence Industries Murad Bayar and STM General Manager Recep Barut along with top officials participated in the signing ceremony and shortly afterwards a cocktail was given at the headquarters of SSM.
STM had been awarded the contract covering "Provision of Ship Platform Construction and Outfitting Materials and Services" under the Patrol and Anti-submarine Warfare Ship (MILGEM) Project by the virtue of decision 281 adopted by the Defence Industry Executive Committee Meeting held on June 22,2005.
As known, Patrol and Anti-Submarine Warfare Ship to be procured within the scope of MILGEM Project will be first nationally designed war ship. In further steps of the project, additionally 11 (eleven) ships are planned to be built in Turkish Ship Yards. Local content in the sub-systems of MILGEM ships will be increased in each procurement step. MILGEM class corvette has already state of the art technology. Therefore, a lot of countries will be intending to procure this ships and in the future, MILGEM class corvettes are supposed to be export product
