TAI signed Alliance Protocol with Strategic Subcontractors
Supporting the development of local sub-industry in the aviation industry, TAI signed Alliance Protocol with Strategic Subcontractors.
At the signature ceremony held in TAI premises with the participation of the Undersecretary for Defence Industries Murad BAYAR, the Alliance Protocol was signed with COŞKUNÖZ, EPSİLON HAVACILIK, HMS MAKİNA, KÜÇÜKPAZARLI, MEGE-TEK, MFK MAKİNA, MİKRON MÜHENDİSLİK, UYGUR SAVUNMA, YEPSAN SAVUNMA and YÜKSEL KOMPOZİT.
In his speech delivered at the ceremony, the Undersecretary for Defence Industries Murad BAYAR stated that the number of companies performing activities in the defence sector in the past could be counted on the fingers of one hand, whereas today there is a very big dynamism seen in the private sector, especially in the sub-industry. "We comprehend new capabilities and technologies of companies where we have visited. We realize the investments of such companies, their performances. Today what we have achieved is to some extent the consequences of these visits and comprehensions. If we are in the position where Turkey was 20 years ago, perhaps we could not achieve this" said BAYAR.
"The defence sector in the past was foreign-dependent and the sub-industry was incompetent under the conditions of those days. A competitive dynamic environment has been achieved as of today. Our main mission is undoubtedly meeting the needs of the armed forces. This mission is unquestionable; in doing so we should benefit from our industry efficiently. But it also has strategic consequences. When you make something in Turkey, this is not only an economic activity, it also has consequences in military aspect" added BAYAR.
In his speech at the ceremony, the President and CEO of TAI Muharrem DÖRTKAŞLI stated that they have been making more subcontracts with the sub-industry compared to those in the past and underlined that the sub-industry is required to undergo a certification process; once it is done, the work to be subcontracted to them will increase more. DÖRTKAŞLI remarked that in 2011 TAI paid nearly $40 million to the sub-industry as labor charges and expressed that they will transfer big volume activities such as composite detail production, sheet metal and profile folding to the sub-industry.
Orhan AYDIN, the President of OSTİM Organized Industrial Region emphasized the importance of institutions for SME’s such as TAI and ASELSAN located at Ankara and stated that a cluster has been established in OSTİM in the field of defence thanks to the Undersecretariat’ssupport to the sub-industry and its strategy. "We are waiting for the same supports and contributions from other sectors as well. We began to implement the lessons learnt and experiences acquired from the defence industry in other sectors" added AYDIN.
Following the speeches, the alliance protocol was signed by the President and CEO of TAI Muharrem DÖRTKAŞLI and representatives of the strategic subcontractors.
