Turkish Defence Alliance Aims to Extend its Export Activities
Defence and Aerospace industry is considered strategic by all the relevant actors in Turkey, as is worldwide.
The Turkish Defence and Aerospace Industry is ahead of other industries in the country vis a vis “the rate of export increases”, meaning that in the last two years we have attained significant momentum.
Its most advantageous component is the fact that whole sector depends on R&D. The success of the Turkish Defence and Aerospace Industry growing at a rapid pace in recent years is continuing based on the effective and proper combination of a qualified labor power and high technology.
The Turkish Defence and Aerospace Industry having a reputable and stable position in the global markets, realised exports to the regions of North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), European Union (EU), Middle East, Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Far East Countries in 2013.
Turkish Defence and Aerospace Industry Exporters’ Association (SSI) has the objective to represent the member exporting companies at home and abroad and develop policies to improve exports. The Association is working under the auspices of Ministry of Economy and in close collaboration with the Ministry of National Defence. SSI, comprised of about 250 members, is the unique Exporters’ Association in the Turkish Defence and Aerospace Industry and the number of members is increasing constantly.
SSI is engaged in, diversification of export products and improving the competitiveness of export products within its field of business such as defence and security systems and the related software, land and naval platforms and the related equipment, aerospace, electronic warfare systems, support systems and logistic services, research and development, manufacturing services in the related sectors.
The Association has a variety of responsibilities as mentioned in its foundation objectives such as:
Acting as a bridge between private and public sectors,
Working in collaboration with other national and international institutions and associations,
Organizing fairs or participating in fairs organized at home or abroad within the framework of advertising activities,
Hosting delegations from potential countries at home and organizing trips for Trade Missions to such countries,
Publishing activities and preparation of sectoral and market research reports and presenting these to the exporting companies in the sector within the framework of mentioned activities,
Announcing foreign demands to the exporting companies in the domestic market,
Organizing seminars and meetings for the exporters, thus keeping them in the picture of developments,
Recording and following-up of the activities regarding exports of the member exporting companies.
Turkish Defence and Aerospace Industry Exporters’ Association founded a sectoral promotion group named “Turkish Defence Alliance” in 2013 so as to improve the exports, to proceed to the new markets and promote the sector all over the world within the framework of its objective mentioned as ‘’promotional activities in international markets’’.
It is the supporting hand of the sector abroad with activities in terms of branding, advertisement-promotion, marketing and similar areas, accelerating the communication activities towards target and potential markets.
The promotion group will be engaged in activities among others such as:
Activities of promotion, advertisement and communication abroad,
Organizing fairs and trade missions abroad,
Supporting sectoral projects and activities abroad,
Functioning as communication channel between the Turkish exporters and important importers to create cooperation possibilities among the parties,
Publishing activities to promote the sector abroad,
Conducting market researches to specify strategies for sectoral development.
Working hard to be one of the big global suppliers, with a strategy based on high value added, high-tech products and services, defines the roadmap for the upcoming decade.
Turkey; with its strategic approach, political will and determination, national coordination and cooperation among relevant institutions and bodies, fast developing know-how, highly talented R&D labor force, growing companies, high quality products, increasing PR and sales efforts, political, economic and historical links with many regions and countries of the world, is willing to be one of the important members of the defence league. And as SSI, we are well aware of our responsibilities and working very hard to that end.
