Estonia Purchased NMS 4x4 Armored Vehicles From Nurol Makina
NMS 4x4 wheeled armored vehicles have been purchased for the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Center of the Estonian Rescue Board to safeguard the members of the Defense Forces in combat situations, ensuring their rapid and secure deployment on the battlefield.
The agreement was signed between ECDI (Estonian Center for Defense Investments) Director General Magnus Valdemar SAAR and General Manager of Nurol Makina Engin AYKOL on October 18, 2023, in Estonia. The new armored vehicles will be acquired for the 2nd Infantry Brigade of the Defense Forces, which has not previously had wheeled armored vehicles.
The signature ceremony was held in attendance of Estonian Defense Minister Hanno PEVKUR and Türkiye's Defense Minister Gen. Yaşar GÜLER. Following the LOI (Letter of Intent) signed between the two countries' Defense Ministers, a protocol on cooperation in the defense industry between Türkiye and Estonia was also signed by Magnus Valdemar Saar, ECDI Director General, and Haluk GÖRGÜN, SSB (Turkish Defense Industry Agency) President.
Karmo SAAR, Category Manager for Air, Sea, and Combat Vehicles at the ECDI, stated, ‘The protection of Estonian soldiers in dangerous situations is our top priority. Given the current security situation, we emphasized in the procurement terms and conditions that the vehicles should arrive in Estonia as early as possible.’
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Engin AYKOL, General Manager of Nurol Makina emphasized that Nurol Makina is one of the most competitive players in its class in the international market. Engin Aykol said that ECDI managed the tender process very transparently in a highly professional manner to have the best-in-class 4x4 vehicle. He said that he was proud to see that the NMS 4x4 emerged as the best vehicle in its segment from this comprehensive tender process.
The contracts for the wheeled armored vehicles have a duration of ten years and allow for additional armored vehicle and spare parts purchases if necessary. The estimated cost of the procurement is at around €70 Million, including Nurol Makina NMS 4x4 wheeled vehicles, as well as documentation, training, special tools and equipment, and spare parts. Nine companies from six different countries participated in the tender process, which lasted approximately two years, and NMS 4X4 was the vehicle that received the highest score as a result of price, performance and schedule evaluations. Within the scope of the contract, the first vehicles will be delivered to the 2nd Infantry Brigade of the Estonian Defense Forces in 2024, and all deliveries will be completed within two years. Following Hungary, Estonia became the 2nd NATO country and the 5th country to procure the NMS 4x4.
