Providing Custom Solutions to Vibration Control and Testing Needs of the Defence Industry
HG Mekanik is a recently established engineering company founded to develop products and services for vibration control and testing. Main focus of the company is to develop products and technologies for reducing vibrations in mechanical systems such that the problems associated with excessive structural vibrations in these systems are eliminated. Another major line of work of HG Mekanik is to develop vibration testing software and mechanical test systems for dynamic testing of materials and components. Company currently has a couple of product development projects but is also available for project-based work for the development of custom vibration control systems and devices, vibration testing software, material testing systems (for dynamic testing of elastomers, rubber, plastics, etc.), and mechanical component dynamic testing systems (for fatigue testing, dynamic stiffness characterization). HG Mekanik can also offer consultancy and training services in the areas of vibration control and testing methods and applications.
Company Profile:
HG Mekanik was founded in June 2012 with a grant support (Tekno Girişim) from the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology. Although it is a new company, founder Dr. Gökhan Özgen has over 15 years of experience in the areas of vibration testing and analysis. In the last 10 years, he also managed and participated in projects that involved the use of high damping materials for vibration control and isolation. He has also currently started a project on active vibration control. In addition to his managing position at HG Mekanik, he is also employed as a full-time faculty member at the Mechanical Engineering Department of Middle East Technical University. Some of his completed and ongoing research projects are "Design of a Tuned Vibration Absorber for Controlling Gun Barrel Vibrations", "Viscoelastic Material Test System Development", "Design of Novel Passive Vibration Devices", "Optimization of a Radar Antenna Structure for Desired Vibration Response", "Design of an Elastomer Vibration Isolator", "Development of a Vibration Isolator Test System", and "Active Vibration Control of Beams and Shells". He also regularly offers two elective courses on "Vibration Control and Isolation" and "Smart Structures and Materials".
In addition to Dr. Özgen, HG Mekanik staff also includes one Mechanical Engineer with experience in vibration control and testing. In the near future, HG Mekanik is planning to hire a second engineer to strengthen its core development team.
Areas of Work and Capabilities
HG Mekanik is currently working in the areas of passive and active vibration control, viscoelastic material (elastomers, rubber, plastics, etc.) test systems, vibration test systems, mechanical component test systems for dynamic characterization (fatigue, dynamic stiffness, etc.).
The company staff has considerable experience in the use of high damping materials (viscoleastic materials) which can be effectively used in designing passive vibration control applications. Application-specific tuned vibration absorbers, surface damping treatments of similar passive vibration control devices can designed and engineered by HG Mekanik engineering staff to solve vibration-related problems of the defense industry. Structural optimization techniques may also be utilized to fine tune the vibration behavior of a mechanical system or a product.
The company also has the capability of low and high temperature testing of small electronic and mechanical products. Temperature dependent characterization of elastic and damping properties of viscoelastic materials (elastomers, rubber, plastics, etc.) used in passive vibration control and isolation applications can also be offered as a testing service.
Current Projects
The company currently has four product development projects, which are:
Design and Development of a Test System for Measuring Frequency and Temperature Dependent Mechanical Properties of Viscoelastic Materials (elastomers, rubber, plastics, etc.)
Development of a Design and Analysis Software for Tuned Vibration Absorbers
Development of a Design and Analysis Software for Surface Damping Treatments
Development of an Analysis Software for Vibration Isolation System Design (Vibration Isolator Placement, Response Simulations, etc.)
Product Development
HG Mekanik is currently developing a viscoelastic material test system, various design software for various passive vibration control devices, and analysis software for vibration isolation systems. These products will be available in the near future. Future product development projects include tuned vibration absorbers, surface damping treatments and a modular mechanical component dynamic test system.
Project-Based Work and Consultancy-
HG Mekanik is available for project based work for the design and development of custom vibration control systems and devices (both active and passive), development of custom vibration testing software, design of material dynamic testing systems (for elastomers, rubber, plastics, etc.), and design of mechanical component dynamic testing (for fatigue testing, dynamic stiffness characterization). Based on the needs of a project, additional personnel can be hired or faculty members and researchers of the Middle East Technical University (i.e. faculty members working in the area of structural dynamics and vibrations) can be included in the project team on a contractual basis.
Training Services
HG Mekanik can offer training packages in the topics of Mechanical Vibration Theory, Experimental Techniques for Vibration Testing, Experimental Modal Analysis, Vibration Control Techniques, and Vibration Isolation Techniques. Other training packages may be custom designed in the different specific areas of Structural Dynamics and Vibrations related topics per request.
